About Anthem
Overview and history
Del Webb Corporation acquired the Anthem land through a land swap with the Bureau of Land Management, and the City of Henderson approved annexation of the first 2,535-acre phase in November 1997. Anthem held its grand opening on October 24, 1998, and a 1999 expansion added more land to the plan. Del Webb sold more than 1,000 Anthem homes in its first year, and Anthem ranked as the sixth-best-selling master-planned community in the country in 2000 and 2001, and fifth in 2005.
The first three subdivisions were Anthem Country Club, Sun City Anthem and Coventry Homes at Anthem. In the early 2000s Del Webb added Solera, an age-restricted community, and Anthem Highlands, a conventional all-ages neighborhood. Builders across Anthem have included Del Webb, DR Horton, KB Home, Lennar, Pulte and Richmond American Homes.
Location and getting around
Anthem climbs the foothills at the southern edge of Henderson, in ZIP codes 89052 and 89044. Henderson annexed the first phase in 1997, and a 1999 expansion carried the master plan further across the foothills. The 53-acre Anthem Hills Park sits at 2256 N. Reunion Drive, and Anthem Country Club's clubhouse is at 1 Club Side Drive.
Parks, trails and golf
About 72 acres of Anthem's first phase were set aside for parks and recreation, and the open space has grown with each neighborhood:
- Anthem Hills Park is a City of Henderson park with a ball field, multi-purpose fields, basketball, a skate park and playgrounds. It is also the trailhead for the Anthem East Trail.
- Anthem East Trail is about a 7-mile half-loop east of Anthem. Its first three-quarters of a mile or so is paved and runs through Anthem Hills Park before heading into open desert.
- Anthem Highlands trails and common areas cover more than 26 acres maintained by the Anthem Highlands Community Association.
- Anthem Country Club has a private 18-hole course designed by Hale Irwin and Keith Foster, which opened in April 1999, plus a clubhouse, fitness center, pool, tennis and pickleball at 1 Club Side Drive.
- Revere Golf Club, inside Sun City Anthem, plays two par-72 courses, Lexington and Concord.
