About Centennial Hills

Overview and history

Centennial Hills got its name in a public naming contest on January 17, 2001, when it drew 2,222 votes and beat Arrow Canyon and Tule Springs. The name covers northwest Las Vegas, an area that takes up more than a third of the city's land. The City of Las Vegas adopted the Centennial Hills Sector Plan on March 1, 2006. Because it is an area of the city and not a developer's master plan, Centennial Hills is made up of many separately built subdivisions, and it includes master-planned communities such as Providence and Skye Canyon.

Location and getting around

The area borders the Snow Mountain Paiute Reservation and Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument to the north, Lower Kyle Canyon and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to the west, Summerlin to the south and North Las Vegas to the east. Its center is the interchange of I-11/U.S. 95 and the 215 Beltway, which was first built in 2003 and rebuilt as the Centennial Bowl interchange, completed in 2023. The RTC Centennial Hills Transit Center Park & Ride opened in January 2010, and Centennial Hills Hospital opened on January 21, 2008, with 226 beds.

Parks, library and recreation

A city-run campus along N. Buffalo Drive holds the area's main public amenities:

  • Centennial Hills Park — a 120-acre regional park at 7207 N. Buffalo Drive with an amphitheater that seats more than 3,000 on the lawn, a dog park, sand volleyball, pickleball, soccer fields and water play areas. The park is built around a historic inverted riverbed, thought to be the last remnant of channels that once covered the area, and its walking path has interpretive signs.
  • Centennial Hills Center — a City of Las Vegas community center at 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, operated with the YMCA, with an indoor lap pool, fitness and weight room and computer lab.
  • Centennial Hills Library — a Las Vegas-Clark County Library District branch at Deer Springs Way and Buffalo Drive, opened in 2009 as a 45,555-square-foot LEED Gold building.

North of the neighborhoods, Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs covers 680 acres with lakes and fishing ponds, horse and mountain-bike trails, the historic Tule Springs Ranch and a State Tree Nursery. Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, 22,650 acres of Ice Age fossil beds established in 2014, has its North Unit trailhead at Durango Drive and Moccasin Road.

Homes and neighborhoods

Housing here comes from many builders and eras, from standalone subdivisions to the larger master plans of Providence and Skye Canyon. Providence, developed by Focus Property Group, has 27 neighborhoods and more than 5,600 homes around three community parks, while Skye Canyon, at U.S. 95 and Skye Canyon Park Drive, is still adding new neighborhoods near the area's northwest edge. High schools in the area include Centennial, Arbor View and Shadow Ridge. Start with Centennial Hills single-family homes or townhomes for sale.
