About Desert Shores
Overview and history
RA Homes developed Desert Shores in 1988 as a 682-acre master-planned community with 3,351 residential units. The Desert Shores Community Association passed to homeowner control in November 1992, and the community marked its 20th anniversary in 2008. The plan was built around water from the start: four man-made lakes, a lagoon-style pool with a sand beach, and miles of walking and biking paths.
Location and getting around
Desert Shores is in northwest Las Vegas, inside city limits, in ZIP 89128. The association office is at 2500 Regatta Dr., and Regatta Drive is also where waterfront restaurants line Lake Jacqueline, the largest of the four lakes. Inside the community, walking and biking paths connect the neighborhoods, the lakes, the beach pool and the clubhouse, so much of daily recreation happens without getting in a car.
Lakes, beach pool and clubhouse
The four lakes
The four lakes are Lake Jacqueline, the largest, with waterfront restaurants on Regatta Drive, plus Lake Sarah, Lake Maddison and Lake Lindsey. Some homes are lakefront, and private docks are possible. If a dock matters to you, confirm with the association whether a given lot already has one or could add one before you make an offer.
- Fishing – catch-and-release only with barbless hooks; the association stocks the lakes every spring, and residents do not need a state fishing license
- Boating – no gasoline motors; registered non-gas boats may run from dawn to 10:30 p.m.
- Lakes Committee – advises the association on lake operations
Beach pool, clubhouse and courts
The centerpiece is a lagoon-style pool with a sand beach and palm trees, next to a 2,100 sq ft clubhouse with terraces over the main lake. The community also has volleyball and basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas and miles of walking and biking paths. Amenities are reserved for Desert Shores owners, residents and their invited guests. The Desert Shores Racquet Club, a tennis club, is also in the community. See Desert Shores homes with pools.
Homes and districts
The 3,351 homes are spread across 22 residential districts, ranging from condominiums and townhomes to single-family neighborhoods and custom homes in gated enclaves along the water. Location within the community makes a large difference: homes on one of the four lakes, and especially those with a private dock, are a different product from interior homes a block away. Gated districts add another layer, with their own entry and, in some cases, their own sub-association and dues. Browse gated homes in Desert Shores.
HOA structure
The Desert Shores Community Association (DSCA) is the master association for all 22 districts, with a Lakes Committee that advises on the lakes. Homeowners have controlled it since November 1992. Some gated districts have their own sub-associations on top of the master dues, so ask for both when comparing homes. Currently the median total HOA dues on Desert Shores listings are $210 a month, with a typical range of $120 to $354.
