Sandy Valley is an unincorporated town and census-designated place in west-central Clark County, with 1,663 residents in the 2020 census and a Sandy Valley Citizens Advisory Council. It covers about 56 square miles at roughly 2,766 feet, in the Mesquite Valley of the Mojave Desert between Mount Potosi, a southern extension of the Spring Mountains, to the east and the Kingston Range to the west.

Getting There

Sandy Valley is about 35 miles from the southern part of Las Vegas, about 20 miles from the Jean exit on I-15 and 14 miles from Goodsprings. From Jean, Nevada State Route 161 runs about 7.3 miles to Goodsprings and meets Sandy Valley Road, which leads into town. Nearby Goodsprings is home to the Pioneer Saloon, opened in 1913, and the area's mining history dates to the discovery of lead at Potosi Mountain in 1856.

Pilots have another option. Sky Ranch Airport (FAA 3L2), owned by the Sky Ranch Homeowners Association, is a privately owned public-use airport about two nautical miles southwest of central Sandy Valley. Sky Ranch Estates is a residential aviation community with private hangars and direct runway access.

Community and Outdoors

  • Clark County's 16-acre Sandy Valley Community Center park has a basketball court, sports field, picnic tables and playground.
  • The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District runs the Sandy Valley Library at 650 W. Quartz Ave.
  • Sandy Valley Ranch, about 45 minutes from Las Vegas, offers horseback trail rides, Western events and overnight stays in wagons, tipis and tiny houses.

Schools and Taxes

Sandy Valley School, run by the Clark County School District, serves grades Pre-K through 12, and students from Goodsprings transferred there after Goodsprings Elementary's final year in 2026. Nevada has no state income tax, and annual property tax bill increases are capped at 3% for an owner's primary residence and up to 8% for other property (NRS 361.4723).
